Concluding this blog series about long distance relationships, we’ve talked about how important communication is, dating while apart and staying safe online. Now, we have at least two things that we want to address: Boundaries and Love.

Boundaries are limits that we create so people know how to behave toward us in a safe and permissible manner. When we are in a relationship with a partner, it’s important to set guidelines so all parties know what is acceptable and expected in their specific relationship. Do not lose perspective in the fact that in a relationship we need to be there for one another, but also that we should not sacrifice ourselves in the process. We are our own person and we are responsible for our own happiness. If you think that you need some time alone to do your own thing, be sure to let the other person know and understand that everyone needs their space and that’s ok. So be sure to take breaks for self-dates, take care of yourself and do things that you enjoy.

On the other hand, don’t forget to remind yourselves what you love about each other. We are in a difficult time, all of us. In “normal” circumstances, people in a long distance relationship may experiment jealousy, doubts and insecurities now and then and it’s normal because you’re not in the same place, of course. But now, frustration, sadness and even isolation is being added to the mix. Sharing positive stuff, especially love, is truly important. Remember the reasons of why you started the relationship and why you stayed together. Think about all the good and positive things that have happened in the relationship and the many more that will come when you can see each other in person again. Love each other, love yourself and be strong. It’s possible!
